Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Collection in Quincy
Operation Christmas Child Aims to Reach Millions of Children with Hope this Year
Even During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Everyone Can Bless a Child in Need
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause fear and uncertainty, Samaritan’s Purse is calling on families and groups to pack shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child—making sure millions of children experience the joy of the holiday.
Volunteers in the Quincy area are asking the public to join them in creating shoebox gifts filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys to send to children in need. Even if churches and groups are not yet meeting, families are encouraged to pack shoebox gifts at home. Participating in this activity with children and grandchildren is an excellent way to demonstrate compassion for others. Shoebox gifts are sent all over the world to children affected by war, disaster, poverty and famine.
This is a mission project that everyone can still be a part of, even with COVID-19 restrictions. Simply fill shoeboxes with small gifts, then bring them to a drop-off location during National Collection Week, Nov. 16–23.
In Quincy, packed shoeboxes may be taken to Madison Park Christian Church at “The Commons,” 311 N. 48th St. This year curbside drop-off will be utilized to reduce contact. Drop-off locations are also available in Pittsfield, Palmyra and Hannibal. Drop-off locations and hours may be searched at samaritanspurse.org by city or ZIP code.
Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 168 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories. Each of those gifts began with a single person filling a simple shoebox.
